The study analyses designs of the modern pre-Olympic athletic training process planning process that are pivotal for the competitive accomplishments and final team standings. The history of the issue is briefly overviewed and the present situation is analysed. The study shows that the existing planning system is designed in a top-down format, with the process frame being designed by the Ministry of Sports of the RF in its Pre-Olympic Preparatory Work Management Concept and the downstream Russian Sport Federations that develop their own Target Integrated pre-Olympic Training Programs pursuant to the Concept. It is based on these Target Integrated Pre-Olympic Training Programs that every coach designs the individual pre-Olympic athletic training systems. The Russian Olympic Committee comes up with its own Pre-Olympic Training Process Facilitation Program that has proved its benefits in facilitating the preparatory training and competitive performance of elite Russian athletes in large-scale international sport events initiated by the International Olympic Committee.
The study data are particularly relevant at this juncture when the Russian sports agencies are getting ready for the 2018 (XXIII) Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang (Korean Republic) and 2020 (XXXII) Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan).
