Objective of the study was to analyse the technical and tactical aspects, design and contents of the blocking actions in volleyball; and to develop an informational support model for improvement of the blocking action success rate in volleyball game. Having analysed the available theoretical and practical literature on the subject, we found that block may be described as a sequence of actions classifiable into four relatively separate stages consolidated into a single technical and tactical process; with the optimal tactical decisions found by the volleyball player via a creative image thinking process. Based on the study data and analyses, the authors concluded that a key condition for the block being effective is the early detection of the opponent’s attack via the creative image thinking followed by identification of some trigger image in the action sequence that determines the further response blocking sequence.

Keywords: creative image thinking, block in volleyball.
