Abstract
Objective of the study was to analyze the influence of relative age and biological maturation on the objectivity of sports selection in youth football and to substantiate organizational and methodological approaches to its improvement. Methods and structure of the study. The empirical basis of the study was formed by data from an analysis of the structure of the young football player population, as well as the results of an experimental study conducted at the High Performance Sports Laboratory involving 103 athletes. The methodological framework was based on the notion of heterogeneity in the rates of biological development and their impact on the manifestation of motor abilities, as well as conceptual understanding of the influence of relative age on selection processes in sports. Results and conclusions. It was found that the structure of the young football player population is significantly biased by birth quarter. It was found that athletes with a higher level of biological maturation exhibit advantages in anthropometric parameters (height, body weight), but do not demonstrate statistically significant differences in motor ability. These findings suggest a double bias in the athletic selection system, caused by the combined influence of chronological age and the rate of biological development. The need for integrated organizational and methodological approaches aimed at taking into account individual developmental characteristics and increasing the objectivity of athletic potential assessment is substantiated.
