Abstract

Objective of the study is to determine the relationship between the level of motor activity and the academic performance of students at higher education institutions. Methods and structure of the study. The study was organised on the basis of Belgorod State National Research University and Moscow Polytechnic University. It involved students of non-physical education specialities studying in the 1st and 2nd years. The study covered around 1,500 students. The research involved measurements taken over the course of a semester. The results obtained after 1-4 semesters of study were analysed. A number of research methods were used to achieve the stated goal. Pedometer measurements were taken throughout the semester. Participants' daily motor activity was measured using OMRON pedometers. Analysis of attendance records made it possible to determine the number of classes missed due to illness. Analysis of assessment records enabled the academic performance of the students to be assessed. Results and conclusions. Students with a high level of motor activity fall ill less frequently and miss fewer classes. This is indicated by the results of the analysis of academic journals. Optimal motor activity provides young people with a high level of efficiency. This enables students to assimilate educational material more effectively and to pass interim assessments. This is indicated by the results of the analysis of credit and examination records.
