Abstract
Objective of the study is to investigate changes in lower limb muscle activity in ice hockey players during the acceleration and steady-state phases of forward movement. Methods and structure of the study. The ice hockey players skated at maximum speed over a distance of 30 m from a stationary start position. Muscle activity was measured by recording EMG signals during the acceleration phase and the steady-state skating phase. The EMG waves of each muscle were normalised relative to the peak intensity of the stride in steady-state conditions. Results and conclusions. The main factor influencing push-off force during the acceleration phase is the activity of the medial gastrocnemius muscle. During steady-state skating, increased activity of the lateral and medial vastus muscles results in greater extension velocity and greater skating speed.
