Mastering the Russian language should contribute to the study by foreign students of the disciplines included in the training program at a sports university, the expansion of language knowledge, skills and abilities. At the same time, there are various language problems that hinder effective communication of this category of students. In other words, these are communicative barriers, i.e. speech clamps, fear of pronunciation, the removal of which is quite problematic to ensure within the framework of using a traditional approach to learning.
The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the application of the communicative approach in teaching Russian to foreign students of the University of Sports.
The results of the study and their discussion. One of the most effective methods of teaching foreign students the Russian language is currently communicative, considered by modern researchers as the most promising. In fact, this is the fundamental basis that is necessary for further improvement of Russian language proficiency. The advantage of the communicative method is also connected with the unpredictability of communicative situations created in the classroom, the emergence of new situations, the organization of meaningful communication of foreigners in Russian.
One more important aspect of the communicative method should be noted: when it is used in teaching foreigners, the mistakes they make in speech do not play a big role, and gestures, facial expressions, intonation and other non-verbal means of communication that also contribute to the transmission of information come to the aid of speakers.
A special responsibility in the process of learning using the communicative method falls on the teacher, whose tasks include organizing the training session in a more productive way. The teacher needs to contribute to the formation of foreign students' skills of free conversational speech, teaching them the grammatically correct expression of their thoughts.
Conclusion. Teaching Russian to foreign students of the University of Sports, based on the use of a communicative approach, contributes to the formation of stable skills of free communication in various types and situations of speech activity, developing and consolidating communication skills, oral and written professional scientific speech skills, the ability to express speech intentions grammatically correctly, select and organize language material. By immersing students in the language process, the communicative method develops creativity and the general outlook of students.
