Objective of the study was to test by experiment the effectiveness of volleyball training to improve the physical fitness of the northern university female students.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment was conducted at the Department of Physical Education of Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University from September 2017 through May 2019. Sampled for the study were 32 first-year female students majoring in non-sporting disciplines, who were attributed to the main health group. In 2017, of the total number of first-year female students (2,170) 66% were attributed to the main health group. In 2018, this number amounted to 61% (out of 2,299 female students). The participants passed the qualifying standards in September 2017 (before the experiment) and in May 2019 (after the experiment). The Control and Experimental Group subjects were trained twice a week for 90 minutes.
In the Control Group, the training sessions were conducted according to the traditional training program. In the Experimental Group, the training program was based on various exercises used in volleyball training.
Results of the study and conclusions. The results of the experiment testified to the improvement of physical fitness rates in the Experimental Group as opposed to the Control Group. The overall increase in physical fitness in the Experimental Group was 60.24%, and in the Control Group - 31.95%.
Volleyball is thus not only a sport that contributes to the achievement of high sports results but also an effective means of development of students' physical qualities in their future professional activities.
