Objective of the study was to determine the psychophysiological features of the 17-18 years football players depending on their game position.
Methods and structure of the study. The study was carried out in 2019 and involved the 17-18 year-old students of Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth, and Tourism (n=42), of whom 14% were goalkeepers (n=6), 26% - defenders (n=11), 40% - midfielders (n=17), 19% - attackers (n=8). The football players were subjected to the hardware and software complex "NS-Psychotest" to rate the strength of their nervous system, mobility and balance of nervous processes, speed of a simple and complex sensorimotor reactions.
Study results and conclusions. The study found that the individual typological features of the nervous system affect the formation of the athlete's game position and functions performed during the competitive activities. In particular, we detected statistically significant differences in the strength of the nervous system, balance and mobility of nervous processes, time of a simple and complex visual-motor reactions.
The discrepancy between the nervous system characteristics of the athlete and his playing position may result in an unstable play, errors in elementary situations caused by the fatigue of the nervous system of the 17-18 year-old football players. In this view, it seems reasonable to consider the athlete's psychophysiological features when choosing a game position in order to realize his individual potential and increase the effectiveness of team tactics.

Keywords: football, psychophysiology, properties of nervous system, reaction rate, game position.
