University students' attitude to physical activity: sociological analysis

Objective of the study was to identify conditions for increasing university students' motivation for physical education and sports activities based on the study of their interests and attitudes towards fitness and health activities.
Methods and structure of the study. A questionnaire survey method was applied to obtain the data and achieve the  set goal. A total of 200 people were surveyed - the 1st- to 4th-year students, of whom 70% were young males and 30% - females. The participants answered the following groups of questions developed by us: attitude towards physical education and sports activities; physical fitness self-rating; attitude towards physical education classes; expectations regarding physical education classes. The study was conducted in two stages: initial stage - 2016/2017 academic year and final stage (end) – 20118/2019 academic year.
Study results and conclusions. Among the conditions for increasing students' motivation for physical education and sports activities are: cultivation in students of positive attitude to physical education and sports activities as a necessary want for comprehensive personal development; expansion of historical, theoretical and methodological knowledge of students in the field of physical culture and  sort; improvement of the material and technical base for conducting educational and training sessions; optimal choice of time, place and form of physical education classes, etc.
