Objective of the study was to identify relevant avenues of research in the field of physical education and sport based on the analysis of thesis works in the specialty 13.00.04.
Methods and structure of research. As part of the research work, we analyzed the topics of thesis works submitted in 2019 to the Supreme Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of the RF in the specialty 13.00.04, which cover such research trends as "Theory and Methodology of Physical Education", "Theory and Methodology of Sports", "Theory and Methodology of Applied Professional Physical Education and Practice for Military Academies", "Theory and Methodology of Recreational Physical Education", "Theory and Methodology of Adaptive Physical Education".
Results of the study. The analysis of current trends in the scientific research in the field of physical education and sport enabled to determine the vectors of development of modern science and formulate proposals for the formation of relevant research areas covered in the thesis works for the foreseeable future.
Conclusions. The analysis of the topics of thesis works indicated that the previously identified tendency toward a decrease in the number of thesis works on physical culture and sport in all major research areas will continue.
