New pedagogical approaches to physical education of students with special educational needs

Objective of the study was to model the process of physical education of students with special educational needs based on new low-intensity sports.
Methods and structure of the study. The educational experiment was carried out on the basis of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and involved the 1st- to 3rd-year students with special physical education needs. Sampled for the study were a total of 92 students, including 44 female students exempted from physical education classes: those with visual, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders.
Results of the study. It is only possible to model the process of physical education of female students with special educational needs based on the low-intensity sports (billiards, darts) and various types of recreational gymnastics (physical exercises from pilates, yoga, stretching). The study found a positive dynamics in the physical fitness rates of the female students with special educational needs in response to the low-intensity physical activity during billiards and recreational gymnastics practices, as well as in the cardiovascular system functionality rates and motivation to attend physical education classes.
Conclusion. Billiards and recreational gymnastics as a form of training are identical for the identified nosological groups, and they can be used as a basis for designing recreational and rehabilitation programs for students with special educational needs.
