Objective of the study was to determine the relevant directions of extracurricular health and fitness activities of university students with due regard to the educational potential of the teaching staff of the department and traditions of the university. The authors note that the main task of the health activity is to develop students’ cardio-respiratory system and eliminate pathological changes resulting from prolonged hypokinesia. For this purpose, we formed the groups of aerobic physical training and initial physical training. The targeted formation of a positive motivational-value attitude of students to physical education, increased physical education and sports activities are the focus areas of the academic physical education. Along with the training sessions and traditional sports, there are "trendy" sports that are very popular among university students: grappling, kickboxing, athletic fitness, bodyfitness, crossfit, etc. The ultimate goal of all training sessions is to participate in competitions. An important criterion of successful competitive performance as a behavioral factor is the extent to which it enriches the student’s already formed values.
The presented directions of physical education and sports activities contribute to the increase of the level of motivation and physical activity of university students. The prospects for the development of physical education and sports among university students are determined by the integration of their academic and extracurricular activities.
