The study was designed to explore the situation in the national table tennis sport in the context of the long-standing leadership of the Chinese athletes on the global arenas. The leadership is explainable by many factors arguably including the superior coordination qualities. Objective of the study was to make a comparative analysis of the competitive coordination qualities of Russian versus Chinese table tennis players. The coordination qualities of the leading Chinese (Ma Long, Zhang Jike, Chen Hi, Fang Bo and Fang Zhendong) and Russian (Alexander Shibaev, Kirill Skachkov, Alexey Liventsov and Grigory Vlasov) table tennis players were shorthanded and rated by an expert team. The comparative analysis of the competitive coordination qualities of the team leaders showed that the Russian players appear to be generally better in the rhythmic aspects of the movements whilst the Chinese leaders are more stable and successful in the movement coordination in challenging game situations.

Keywords: coordination qualities, motor activity, movement harmony, feel of rhythm, stato-kinetic balance, muscular control.
