Background. The regional educational system in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has lately seen major changes with the electronic learning technologies being increasingly applied in the school and academic educational systems. The physical education and sport (PES) specialist training for the northern schools with a special emphasis on the modern e-learning technologies is designed to produce the modern education specialist highly skillful and competent to: summarize and disseminate positive experience in the e-learning technologies customizable to the regional PES specifics; effectively design and manage a professional educational process with application of the modern e-learning technologies and online resources; update when necessary the theoretical and practical concepts for the new didactic material being revised and delivered in the education and training process [2, 6]. Professional competences and skills of the future PES specialists in the modern information and education service shall be developed with a growing role played by the modern e-learning technologies applicable in schools, with the relevant technological infrastructure being developed in the school system with due regard to the geographic, social, cultural and other needs and specifics of the northern areas [4, 5]. The e-learning technology implementation initiatives imply, among other things, the PES specialist training curriculum being complemented by special IT courses including elective ones.

Objective of the study was to analyze benefits of the modern e-learning technologies for the professional physical education and sport specialist training system based on a practical experience of adaptive trainings to give students the new e-learning competencies and skills.

Methods and structure of the study. Knowing that the local rural schools have long been in need of the modern PES specialists highly competent in the advanced e-learning technologies, the Information Technology Department of Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University in cooperation with the Computer Technology and Electronic Education Department of Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia piloted (in 2014) a new Electronic Education Technologies and Management curriculum under the Corporate e-learning networking program of the master education course. The above academic curriculum was jointly implemented at both of the Departments [2, 3, 5]; and now these programs are being run under the Teacher Education curricula of the secondary vocational training and academic educational systems, including that of the Physical Education and Sport Institute.

Designers of the above master training curriculum gave a special priority to the school and university e-learning models based on the school-university partnerships, with the IT disciplines being both discipline-specific and duly integrated on an interdisciplinary basis; with every school/ university discipline being supported by the relevant e-learning and training systems, models, methods and tools to facilitate the e-learning technology application in the class and off-class training services [3, 4].

Study findings and discussion. As demonstrated by the recent master theses, the modern e-learning technology application at schools and universities has been highly beneficial for the school and academic training service as verified by the practical experience of the e-learning models piloted in the future education specialist training process on a discipline-specific and inter-disciplinary integration basis.

The modern master training curricula require due e-learning competences being developed in the future PES specialist training process in view of the practical needs of the relevant employer education establishment or institution. The e-learning programs are designed on a modular basis to build up due discipline-specific competencies in the interdisciplinary knowledge context. The students are trained in a variety of disciplines including the following: e-learning models and designs; IT project management; PES institution design and management; electronic education methods and tools; distance education technologies in the e-learning domain; cloud technology application in e-learning systems etc. These initiatives provide a basis for the corporate e-learning technology implementation to facilitate cooperation of universities and education departments; and encourage an inflow of the employed PES specialists to the advanced master training courses, with the PES skills advancement service providing a cost-efficient solution to the sector demand for highly competent human resource.

Conclusion. The modern e-learning technologies are ranked among the top priorities in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) educational system, in line with the Russian Pedagogical Universities Development Program for the period up to 2020. The new education policies vest the PES specialists with new responsibilities that require new skills and competences including the abilities to design new education and training materials and services with application of the modern electronic resources and online technologies to support and advance the traditional education and training models. The future PES specialists need to be highly competent in the modern IT and electronic education service to meet the challenges of the ongoing academic education system reforms in Russia with the traditional education systems being revised and process improved with a growing contribution from the modern e-learning technologies.

Abstract

The study analyzes the potential benefits of the e-learning system for future physical education and sport specialists. Subject to the study were the Physical Culture and Sports Institute students and masters majoring in Pedagogical Education at Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University. The study data shows the need for an electronic information and educational system to be applied to improve the physical education process. The study subject is highly topical due to the need for a theoretically grounded, practically tested and applicable in the Russian physical education system curriculum to make future teachers knowledgeable and skillful in the e-learning technologies (ELT) applicable in their professional service. The methods applied for the study purposes were academic progress tests, experimental tools and mathematical methods of statistics. The study data and analyses showed benefits of the proposed physical education and sport specialist training model with the modern e-learning technologies to support professional careers, with the model benefits verified by the students’ progress in the e-learning technologies.
