The study analyzes the Fire Rescue Academy cadets’ physical fitness building process over the academic 5-year period. The physical progress under the study was rated by endurance-testing 3000m race tests; speed-testing 100m sprint test; dexterity and coordination testing 10x10m shuttle run test; standard combined strength tests; and the pull-ups test.
The study showed the traditional physical training system applied at Fire Rescue Academy being inefficient as verified by the irregularities in the physical development rates both on a yearly basis and for the academic 5-year period on the whole. We believe that the concerning situation is due to the following: high percentage (up to 50%) of the poorly and moderately physically fit entrants; non-customizable traditional physical education model that may not be individualized to the group physical fitness levels, age-specific anthropometrical characteristics and age-specific physiological changes in the cadets’ physical fitness; limited educational tools to cultivate high motivations in the cadets for physical development – since their only motivation at present is to receive ‘satisfactory’ points.
