Many sport analysts have lately repeatedly noted the alarming trend of the young population physical fitness levels being on the fall, and this is the reason why the top priority is being given to the initiatives to lure children, adolescents and young people in the broad-based physical education practices. The initiatives are designed to develop both the physical education component of the general education curricula and the local mass sport promotion system for the benefit of the local communities. The article offers a sports-centred approach to step up the local mass sports on the communal level since this approach, as demonstrated by the study findings, helps notably improve the physical health standards of children, adolescents and young people in local communities.

Keywords: physical education, physical fitness, system analysis, sport-centred initiatives.
