The purpose of the study was to determine by experiment the effectiveness of gliding of racing skis on the polytetrafluorethylene sliding surface. According to analysis of the findings, the sliding surface made of polytetrafluorethylene helps increase the stopping distance of skis and the sliding speed as compared with the sliding surface of the ultrahigh-molecule polyethylene (UHMWPE) both with and without various gliding waxes; polytetrafluorethylene sliding surface works effectively in a wide range of weather conditions without using additional gliding waxes, paraffin wax and accelerators.

Keywords: sliding surface of skis, gliding of skis, polytetrafluorethylene, ultrahigh-molecule polyethylene, paraffin, topography, stone grinding.
