The article deals with the matter of self-control of learning activity of students. The place of physical education classes and self-care in the learning activity was determined.
The actual place of physical education classes and health promoting activities in the life of students of Ukrainian universities was defined.
In general, the hypothesis has been confirmed that knowledge and skills in the disciplines being studied are not enough for students to develop, maintain and improve own learning activity.
They also need to acquire, relatively speaking, «non-disciplinary knowledge», to be exact, experience and important information on how to advance in studies, accumulated by teachers and successful senior students.
Without acquiring such knowledge and skills, students take the risk of even losing their place in the university, since according to masters, approximately 37.94% of all drop-outs are sent down due to poor knowledge on the initiative of the university administration.
The rest leave the university due to nonobservance of other training requirements.

Keywords: self-control of learning activity of students, physical education, health care.
