Remedial gymnastics - medical, remedial gymnastics, mechanotherapy, kinetotherapy – has made the course from the empirical method of physical development, human health promotion and treatment of various diseases to the essential component of medical science and practice, general training process, independent academic discipline in the field of physical culture, physical education during its long-term formation and development.
Nowadays the studies of the history of formation of remedial gymnastics as a pedagogical discipline have acquired a special value in the era of development of an efficient system of physical education, searching for new forms of organization of healthy way of life, health protecting technologies meeting the challenges of the humanity in the modern social conditions.
The purpose of the study was to define the key historical and scientific preconditions of formation of remedial gymnastics as a medical academic discipline, as a substantial part of physical education, the system of healthy way of life of the society in general and harmonious personality development.
The course of formation of remedial gymnastics as an academic discipline was long-term and closely correlated with development of social historical formations. Formation and development of remedial gymnastics as an academic discipline was defined by the educational and natural scientific knowledge accumulation.
The findings of the historical-logical study precondition the use of the accumulated experience in modernization and enhancement of training in remedial gymnastics, system of physical education in general and in settling the relevant issues of protection and promotion of the national health, implementation of principles of healthy way of life.
