Introduction. The system of Olympic education and training of children and youth has been formed in Russia since 1980. Its main goal is to involve the younger generation of Russian people to the universal values and ideals of spiritual beauty and nobility.

Big difficulties in the practical solution of the problems related to Olympic training of schoolchildren have been revealed in the recent studies. Therefore, today the problem of improving the effectiveness of this activity by searching for new forms, methods and techniques of their implementation and new approaches to their organization is put to the forefront.

Current priorities in the development of school education are defined by a new strategy of social development based on knowledge and high technology. The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) will help solve many problems and eliminate the difficulties of this educational system, making the learning process more accessible and attractive.

In this regard, it is necessary to consider the possibility and the need for using the basic means of ICT at physical education lessons to improve the efficiency of the organization of the learning process on Olympic education.

The purpose of the research was to identify and justify the basic means of information and communication technologies needed to improve the effectiveness of the learning process on Olympic education.

Research methods. The basic means of ICT, promoting enhancement of the level of Olympic knowledge during the research were justified using the diagnostic technique, which included 4 components:

  •  Olympic (analysis of indicators of theoretical knowledge in the field of Olympism and the Olympic movement, attitude to physical culture, sport and Olympism);
  •  physical (dynamics of results of general fitness level and changes in morpholofunctional indicators);
  •  sports (sports lifestyle motivation changes, personal motivation, moral and volitional qualities, endurance and stamina);
  •  information component (changes in ICT knowledge).

Results and discussion. The main means of ICT, necessary to improve the efficiency of the training process on Olympic education, had been identified during the analysis and synthesis of scientific literature.

Multimedia, telecommunication, Internet technologies and information storage and supplying technologies were tested in the study. The main advantages of the ICT means, needed for enhancement of the efficiency of Olympic education are as follows.

Multimedia Technologies: promote the cognitive aspects of learning, such as perception and awareness of information; increase the motivation of pupils; develop teamwork and collective learning skills.

Telecommunication technologies: enlarge access to teaching and methodological information; form students' communication skills, communicational culture, information search skill; arrange on-line advisory service; make training more individualized, help trainees develop their critical thinking, skills of search and selection of reliable and necessary information.

Internet Technologies: provide organization of various forms of activity of schoolchildren related to unassisted knowledge elicitation and representation; application of the full range of modern information technologies, favourable conditions for self-learning, self-development, self-improvement, self-education and self-fulfillment of pupils, ensure information management.

Information storage and supplying technologies: have a positive effect on memorizing the basics and are easy to grasp; help implement both independent work and living activities of pupils; raise their intellectual level.

Conclusion. The proposed means of ICT, on the one hand, created the conditions of attractiveness and accessibility of the learning process, and on the other - thanks to Olympic education students could develop the values of the Olympic culture and the need for regular physical training and sports activities was formed.
