Keywords: body build, nutritional status, body types, forty years of age.
Introduction. The combination of body build parameters and the actual nutritional status of a person is an important socio-economic task of modern science. According to the classification [1], all people are divided into asthenics (AS), normosthenics (NS), and hypersthenics (HS) depending on the ratio of longitudinal and transverse dimensions of the skeleton [2]. A more detailed analysis of body types made it possible to identify normally nourished, overweight, and underweight variants of AS, NS, and HS.
Objective of the study: to study morphometric indices in individuals aged forty, to identify variants of the combination of nutritional status and body type, and to determine their gender differences.
Methods and organization of the study. A morphometric examination was conducted on 275 individuals (88 men and 187 women aged 40). The body build index (BBI) and the nutritional status index (NSI) were studied. Using the BBI and NSI, all body types (asthenics, normosthenics, and hypersthenics) can be divided into normally nourished, overweight, or underweight variants using new somatic indicators: the body build index and the nutritional status index (based on the measurement of height, body weight, and wrist circumference).
Results of the study and their discussion. In general, the following ratios of the main body types were revealed in the group of 40-year-olds: normosthenics – 38.2%, asthenics – 34.9%, hypersthenics – 26.9%. For 40-year-old women, the following ratios of the main body types are characteristic: normosthenics – 39.6%, asthenics – 32.6%, hypersthenics – 27.8%. For men, the ratios of the main body types were as follows: normosthenics – 35.2%, asthenics – 39.8%, hypersthenics – 25.2%. In the group of men, normal nutritional status was found in 56.8%, underweight in 17.0%, and overweight in 26.1%. In the group of women, 61.6% had normal nutritional status, 19.2% were underweight, and 19.2% were overweight. Gender differences were established in one variant of the combination of nutritional status and body type: among women, compared to men, there are 3 times fewer overweight asthenics (3.2 ± 0.8% vs. 9.1 ± 1.4%).
Conclusion. The relative novelty of the work was the use of somatic indicators: the body build index (BBI) and the nutritional status index (NSI) to study a group of forty-year-olds living in Southern Russia. Gender differences were revealed in the variant combining overweight and asthenic body type, and they are easily detectable and highly reliable.
