Introduction. A review of scientific and methodological literature shows that a significant number of researchers worldwide present data indicating the negative impact of esports on various aspects of human health [1, 2]. This contrasts with the traditional understanding of sports, which is associated with health promotion and the improvement of physiological indicators, thereby casting doubt on the sporting nature of esports.
Objective of the study: to identify the degree of impact of esports on the players' bodies.
Methods and organization of the study. A survey was conducted among students of Kabardino-Balkarian State University and an agrarian university, involving 350 students.
Results of the study and their discussion. As a result, it was revealed that: 88.5% of the surveyed respondents experience sleep disorders (difficulty falling asleep); 51.1% of respondents confirmed a deterioration in vision over the past 2–3 years (the period of their engagement in gaming); 20.5% of respondents noted the presence of systematic lower back pain or headaches; 8.5% of esports players experience arm or hand pain; 26.8% of participants indicated the presence of excess weight gained during the period of their engagement; and 37.1% of the students participating in the study frequently experience anxiety or exhibit excessive shyness compared to their peers.
Conclusion. Today, esports has gone beyond being simple entertainment for young people, becoming a significant element of modern culture. It is beneficial as it develops concentration, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. However, there is a flip side: excessive enthusiasm and addiction can negatively affect physical and mental health. Therefore, it is extremely important to develop and implement a system for controlling children's and adolescents' access to games, as well as to provide liability measures for attempts to distribute unregulated esports.
