Keywords: football players aged 16-17 years, off-season period, physical training, speed-strength abilities, training loads, special preparedness, off-season training camps.

Aim of the study: to determine the features of physical training of qualified football players aged 16-17 years in the off-season period and to evaluate the effectiveness of applying a complex of speed-strength means in the structure of a training camp.

Methods and organization of the study: The scientific work involved 24 qualified football players aged 16-17 years, divided into experimental and control groups of 12 people each. The experiment lasted for 4 weeks during the off-season training camp. The results of a 30 m run, standing long jump, standing triple jump, and vertical jump were evaluated before and after the experiment. The significance of differences was determined using Student's t-test at p<0.05.

Results of the study and their discussion: At the initial stage, differences between the groups in the main indicators of physical fitness were insignificant, which indicated their initial homogeneity. Upon completion of the off-season training camp, positive dynamics were noted in both groups, however, in the experimental group, it was significantly more pronounced. Thus, the result in the 30 m run improved from 4.49±0.04 to 4.34±0.03 s (p<0.05), in the standing long jump – from 224.6±4.8 to 238.9±4.5 cm (p<0.05), in the standing triple jump – from 653.2±11.4 to 687.5±10.6 cm (p<0.05), in the vertical jump – from 43.1±1.2 to 48.0±1.1 cm (p<0.05). In the control group, the changes also had a positive direction, but turned out to be less pronounced and statistically insignificant. The obtained data suggest that the physical training of football players aged 16-17 years in the off-season period should be built on a rational combination of general preparatory and special preparatory means with an emphasis on the development of speed, explosive strength, and the ability to repeatedly manifest muscular effort. It is this construction of the training process that creates the basis for the subsequent increase in special working capacity and more effective execution of game actions.

Conclusions: The study showed that in the off-season period, the physical training of football players aged 16-17 years is most effective with the complex use of speed-strength means. The application of plyometrics, accelerations, and exercises with external resistance creates the basis for improving physical fitness and successful competitive activity.
