Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the level and features of the readiness and ability of medical university students for health-preserving activity by means of the assessment of the motivational-value, cognitive, operational, behavioural and reflexive-regulatory components. Methods and structure of the study. 264 students of the 1st-4th years of study of a medical university took part in the questionnaire survey. To assess the readiness and ability of the students for health-preserving activity, an author’s questionnaire was used, developed in accordance with the structure of the phenomenon under study and including questions characterising the motivation for the preservation of health, the level of knowledge, the features of physical activity, rational nutrition, the observance of the regime of work and rest, as well as the skills of the self-regulation of the psycho-emotional state. The processing of the results was carried out using the methods of descriptive statistics. Results and conclusions. It was established that the general level of the readiness and ability of the students for health-preserving activity corresponds to the average level. The motivational-value component, characterising the readiness of the students for health-preserving activity, is formed at a fairly high level. In the structure of the ability for its practical realisation, the cognitive component is the most pronounced, whereas the operational, behavioural and reflexive-regulatory components have lower indicators. A discrepancy was revealed between the positive attitude of the students to health preservation and the ability to realise health-preserving activity in everyday life. The obtained results testify to the necessity of developing pedagogical means directed at the formation of the readiness and ability of medical university students for health-preserving activity.
