Abstract

Objective of the study is to conduct an analysis of the main moments of the history of the emergence and development, the foundations of the theory, methodology and methods of the training and competitive processes of powerlifting, on the basis of which powerlifting can and should be considered as a socio-pedagogical system of strength sport. Methods and structure of the study. The scientific work is organised in accordance with the norms and rules of the preparation and conduct of a descriptive study by the method of document analysis. The material is presented in the format of a scientific article. Results and conclusions. The historical heterogeneity of the formation of powerlifting in different socio-ideological conditions predetermined the dominance of the American model, whereas the domestic system, having passed through late institutionalisation, ideological pressure and a change of context, today retains an internal contradictoriness as a natural reflection of the complexity of the social background itself.
