Abstract

Objective of the study is the analysis of the historical development of the Moscow State University of Sport and Tourism from the moment of its founding: from a specialised educational institution to a multidisciplinary university. Methods and structure of the study. In the course of the scientific work, the following main methods were applied: the historical-genetic (the study of the causes and development of events), the historical-comparative (the comparison of phenomena), the historical-systemic (the analysis of the structure of society), the historical-typological (classification) and the method of chronological analysis. Results and conclusions. The evolution of the educational institution from narrowly specialised courses to a large multidisciplinary university is shown. The key factors of development were: the state order for personnel, the consistent expansion of the range of educational programmes, integration with sectoral structures, the introduction of practice-oriented teaching and international co-operation. It was revealed that each historical stage was accompanied by transformations reflecting the needs of the country's economy and social policy in the sphere of tourism and sport.
