The aim of the research  is to develop and theoretically substantiate the structure of the pre-competition microcycle of training for student volleyball players with differentiation of the content of training sessions depending on playing positions.

Methods and organization of the research. The scientific work was based on the analysis of scientific and methodological sources and the practical experience of training student volleyball teams. When building the microcycle, the principles of sports periodization, the specifics of competitive activities, and the limited study time were taken into account. The structure of the microcycle was formed taking into account the tasks of the pre-competition stage and the combination of team and individual forms of work.

Results and discussion. The analysis of indicators of special physical fitness of student volleyball players made it possible to obtain a generalized quantitative characteristic of the level of development of key physical qualities taking into account playing positions. The average time of holding the "L-sit" (angle) exercise was 44.0 ± 7.5 s, and the result of throwing a 1 kg medicine ball was 9.9±1.0 m, which reflects a sufficient but heterogeneous level of strength and speed-strength fitness. The average vertical jump height reached 56.7±4.8 cm, with higher values noted in attacking players. Indicators of coordination and speed endurance were 106.3±9.9 reps in the jump rope test for 1 minute, and the stability of the muscular corset, assessed by the "plank" exercise, was 129.8±16.9 s. The average number of push-ups with a ball in 30 s was 29.5±3.0 reps, which characterizes a satisfactory level of upper limb strength endurance.

Conclusions. The developed structure of the pre-competition microcycle for student volleyball players ensures targeted preparation of the team for competitive activities in the conditions of the educational process. Differentiation of loads taking into account playing positions and the inclusion of an active recovery day contribute to the optimization of the functional state of athletes and the achievement of peak sports form, which allows the model to be recommended for use in the student sports system.
