Abstract

Objective of the study – to determine the features of the comprehensive development of speed-strength abilities in young badminton players aged 10–12 years.

Methods and structure of the study. The scientific work was conducted on the basis of sports schools in China among children aged 10–12 years involved in badminton. To assess the level of speed-strength preparedness, the following tests were used: 20m run, 5–10–5 test, standing long jump, and vertical jump. The comprehensive approach involved a combination of exercises for starting speed, multi-directional movements, jumping tasks, and special preparatory exercises with badminton elements, which made it possible to simultaneously develop speed, explosive strength, and speed-coordination abilities. The assessment methodology and baseline indicators were correlated with previously obtained data on young badminton players aged 10–12 years in China.

Results of the study and their discussion. The conducted tests showed positive dynamics of speed-strength indicators in young badminton players aged 10–12 years. In the 20m run, the average time for 10-year-old athletes was 9.11±0.47 s, for 11-year-olds – 8.90±0.51 s, for 12-year-olds – 8.48±0.41 s, which indicates an improvement in starting speed and reaction speed. In the 5–10–5 test, the average result for 10-year-old badminton players was 8.10±0.37 s, for 11-year-olds – 7.82±0.34 s, for 12-year-olds – 7.47±0.31 s. The decrease in time indicates an increase in agility, maneuverability, and the ability to perform rapid multi-directional movements, which are of great importance in badminton. In the standing long jump, the average values were: for 10-year-olds – 6.63±0.74 m, for 11-year-olds – 7.06±0.71 m, for 12-year-olds – 7.50±0.68 m. In the vertical jump, the indicators were, respectively, 28.4±3.1 cm, 31.6±3.4 cm, and 35.2±3.0 cm. The obtained data confirm that the comprehensive nature of training contributes to the development of the speed-strength potential necessary for effective starts, lunges, and movements on the court.

Conclusion. The study showed that the comprehensive development of speed-strength abilities is an important condition for improving the physical fitness of young badminton players aged 10–12 years. To increase the effectiveness of the training process, it is recommended to combine exercises for speed, explosive strength, change of direction of movement, and special movements close to competitive activity.
