Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify, based on an analysis of the opinions of practicing psychologists and a survey of combat veterans, the types of physical culture and sports activity in the context of an ecosystem approach to the socio-psychological readaptation of combat veterans. Methods and structure of the study. The research work conducted on the basis of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics included the following stages: analysis of scientific and methodological literature; a survey of combat veterans (n=279); interviews with psychologists working with this target group (n=10); analysis of sociological surveys; and formulation of conclusions. Results and conclusions. The empirical data revealed the existence of psychological problems among ex-combatants (expressed through body language) and a reluctance among many to seek psychological help from specialists, based on the attitude of “I am strong, I will cope on my own,” alongside an active desire to participate in physical activity. Combat veterans perceive physical exercises and sports as a “normal” activity but avoid formal psychotherapeutic programs. The interpretation of the results indicates the possibility of involving combat veterans in mental health recovery through physical activity, including special exercises for psychoregulation and processing of negative emotions using techniques of body-oriented psychotherapy. For successful readaptation and constructive resocialization of veterans, an ecosystem approach is required in the interdisciplinary interaction of specialists (physical education and sports coaches, psychologists, physicians), as well as in their professional development and supervision.
