Abstract

Objective of the study is to investigate the characteristics of autonomic regulation of heart rate and postural control in young badminton players. Methods and structure of the study. The research was conducted at the Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sport at Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism. Sixteen young badminton players, ranging in sporting proficiency from the second adult category to candidate for master of sport, and 26 members of the control group who do not participate in sport were examined. Postural control was assessed using a biofeedback stabilisation platform via the Romberg test (eyes open and closed), as well as recording electrocardiograms and heart rate variability using the PowerLab system (ADInstruments, Australia). Results and conclusions. Significant correlations were identified between heart rate variability indices and stabilographic parameters of postural control, particularly with eyes closed. Athletes exhibited a higher level of absolute VLF power and sympathetic nervous system dominance, which may reflect the role of central autonomic mechanisms in ensuring the stability of postural control. However, differences in physical activity shape the characteristics of autonomic regulation and postural control, but the direct influence of the autonomic nervous system on postural control may not be obvious.
