Objective of the study is to summarise ninety years of experience in the implementation of physical education at Volgograd State Medical University.
Methods and structure of the study. The study employed methods of analysing scientific and methodological literature, as well as summarising and systematising the scientific and practical experience of the department’s teaching staff.
Results and conclusions. The authors highlight the phased development of the physical education, health and sports infrastructure, as well as human resources. Sporting achievements across various sports are presented. The significance of sporting traditions and their connection with the university’s alumni is noted. A multi-stage system for organising the training of GTO badge holders is outlined, along with the Regulations on the All-Russian Review-Competition of Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities and the ‘Physical Culture and Sport – A Doctor’s Second Profession’ Sports Festival. The academic focus of the department’s lecturers and their publication activity are outlined. Emphasis is placed on fostering an inclusive culture among future medical professionals through tutoring. The results of work in the field of applying modern health-improvement technologies among students are summarised.
