Objective of the study is to identify and reveal the ontological foundations of sports culture, whose values are determined by the essential nature of sport and shape it as a socio-cultural phenomenon.
Methods and structure of the study. The source base consisted of scientific works devoted to the research problem.
Results and conclusions. It is concluded that sport is a model of the world that conveys values such as fair competition, the will to win, voluntary participation, following the rules, the intensity of the game, the uncertainty of results, going beyond the ordinary, and others. Particular attention is paid to the physical dimension, where values are not simply recognised, but lived and embodied, making the body the locus of their existential presence. Thus, the ontological foundations of the value meanings of sports culture are its playful nature, agonism as a way of unfolding existence, and the embodiment of values in bodily experience.
