Objective of the study is to assess the scientist's contribution to the formation and development of domestic and world sports science.
Methods and structure of the study. The methodological basis of the work was the analysis of scientific publications, dissertation research and biographical literature devoted to the life and work of V.P. Filin.
Results and conclusions. The scientist's main scientific legacy lies in the creation of a scientifically based system of long-term training for young athletes, which covers all aspects – from selection and development of qualities to standardisation of loads and training plans for many years to come. The uniqueness of the scientist's contribution lies in the synthesis of his experience as an athlete, teacher and scientist, which he managed to summarise in scientific works that specialists have studied and continue to study. The scientific school he created ensured the continuity and further development of his ideas, which allows us to consider V.P. Filin one of the most significant figures who shaped the modern face of domestic sports science and the system of training sports reserves.
Keywords: theory of children's and youth sports, scientific school, scientific contribution, harmonisation of scientific and sports careers.
