Introduction. Bullet shooting is a "demanding" sport in terms of psychology: emotional reactions and the psychological component have a significant impact on performance [1]. This determines the relevance of expanding knowledge on this issue, including in the environment of mass student sports.
The purpose of the study is to identify the psychological problems that student-athletes have when learning bullet shooting and prevent them from improving their results.
Methodology and organization of research. The total number of subjects was 45 people (26 men, 19 women). The sample is represented by students who have been engaged in bullet shooting within the framework of the university's sports section from 1 to 5 years. 14 students do not have a sports category, 27 students have a II category, the rest have a I category or KMS. The respondents answered a semi-closed type of question in writing about their possible psychological problems that, in their opinion, prevent them from achieving better results. Students could give several possible answers.
The results of the study and their discussion. 53.3% of the students indicated that they had no psychological difficulties affecting athletic performance. The rest of the respondents reported having such difficulties. 22.2% of the total number of respondents noted perfectionism and/or "excellent student syndrome" as an interfering psychological factor, 20% of students noted anxiety and/or fear of not meeting expectations, 15.5% of students noted fear of a "bad" result or loss. The more rare psychological difficulties mentioned by the students were: increased emotionality (8.8%); self-doubt (6.6%); lack of confidence in shooting (4.4%); increased self-demand (2.2%), expressed in demanding high results from oneself.
Conclusions. Slightly less than half of the students face psychological problems when learning bullet shooting, which prevent them from showing better results. The students identified them – these difficulties are not exclusively individual, but often similar for different shooters. It is necessary to find ways to solve the identified problems and formulate common "scenarios" based on which students will be able to overcome psychological difficulties. It is also necessary to pay attention to the non–specific nature of these problems for shooting - overcoming them within the framework of sports can have a positive effect on the general psychological well-being of students in the future.
