Objective of the study is to improve the sense of rhythm as an important component of motor training in first- and second-year female students engaged in recreational aerobics.
Methods and structure of the study. Tests and questionnaires were used to quantitatively assess the effectiveness of the developed methodology. The experiment involved 146 female students from Рeter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU), 93 first-year students and 53 second-year students. All participants regularly attended two-hour classes held twice a week as part of the Fitness specialisation programme. The classes were conducted in strict accordance with the working programme of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism (IPCST), developed by the Department of Physical Training and Sports.
Results and conclusions. To achieve the set goals in the process of training in health aerobics, the emphasis was placed on developing musicality and a sense of rhythm in students, as well as on the consistent mastery of coordinationally complex movements. According to the application of the developed methodology, first-year students show noticeable progress in mastering musical rhythm and synchronisation of movements, while second-year students demonstrate a stable level of acquired rhythmic skills.
