Introduction. The relevance of the topic of school museums for Russia and the world is conditioned by the need to form a patriotic consciousness in the context of modern challenges [1]. In conditions when young people face various ideological influences, school museums can become an important tool for strengthening national identity and patriotism [2].
The purpose of the study is to identify the possibilities of the school sports museum as an effective means of patriotic education of students.
Methodology and organization of research. A questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was developed and conducted in three blocks (general interest and engagement, preferred format and content, engagement and participation) among students of the distributed Lyceum of psychological and pedagogical orientation of UlGPU named after I. N. Ulyanov. 120 high school students from educational institutions in Sursky, Novospassky, Kuzovatovsky, Karsunsky districts of the Ulyanovsk region and the city of Ulyanovsk took part in the survey.
The results of the study and their discussion. The majority of respondents (over 78%) supported the idea of creating a school sports museum, answering "Very interesting" or "Rather interesting," which indicates the demand for creating such a space. As for the format and content, the most sought-after answers were: interactive zones (45%) – children do not just want to look, but to touch, try on and interact. Awards (cups, medals) were chosen by 25% of respondents, which indicates that the material evidence of sports victories is of great interest, as well as modern digital technologies (20%) – videos and interactive screens significantly increase the attractiveness. The survey also showed that the most interesting are the legendary athletes of the country and the world (45%) and graduates of the school who have achieved athletic heights (40%). This shows the desire of children to see both world-famous success stories and local ones that they can look up to. Every third respondent (33%) expressed willingness to actively participate in the creation of a sports museum. The most popular forms of participation are information retrieval (40% of those who are willing to participate) and photography/design (35%).
Conclusions. The conducted research has shown the high potential of the school sports museum as an effective means of patriotic education of students, but its implementation requires a modern, interactive and technological approach that actively involves students themselves in the process of its creation and operation. We offer the following recommendations for teachers and organizers of the school sports museum:
– to make the museum interactive, abandoning the "showcase" format, with the mandatory inclusion of elements with which you can interact: installations, simulators, photo zones with exhibits, etc.;
– the integration of digital technologies through the use of video monitors to show interviews, the creation of a digital archive of photos that can be scrolled on a tablet, etc.;
– the creation of a "glory zone" with awards and sporting attributes not only of graduates, but also of great athletes, which connects the history of the school with the world of big-time sports;
– involving students in creating a space, making sure to assign tasks according to their interests (search engines, designers, guides), which will increase the involvement of students in the process.
