Introduction. The concept of volume in constitutionology is more important than the body mass index, which is not related to body shape and can be neither a type-forming nor a type-reflecting factor of any body type. An analysis of the literature shows that the recognition of volume as a type-forming factor reveals such a feature as body surface area. At the same time, unlike volume, body area depends on its shape [1, 2].
The purpose of the study is to consider body area as a key concept of human physique.
Methodology and organization of research. The authors conducted a search for information in the databases eLibrary, PubMed, Google using the keywords "somatotype", "morphometry", "somatometry". Morphometric examination was performed in 128 men and 177 women aged 18 to 22 years; body mass index, body mass index, body surface area were studied [2, 3].
The results of the study and their discussion. The mathematical model of body area is known and looks like this: S=cv 2/3 , where c is an indicator of body shape, equally pronounced for all isomers; for allomers, this indicator increases with the "stretching" of a normally folded body and decreases with its "flattening" along the longitudinal axis. The physique of any normally well-fed person can be determined using the volume and area of the body, for which many formulas are used [2]. Most of the formulas are inaccurate, as they do not take into account geometric similarity when comparing any randomly selected person with any of his isomers. In this regard, the volume- and gender-accounting formula S=d(MH) ½ was proposed [1].
Conclusion. The special volume- and gender-sensitive formula has an error of zero when measuring body area for all isomers and does not exceed 0.1% when examining allomers.
