Objective of the study is to compare the stress resistance levels of combat sports athletes with those of athletes from other sports.
Methods and structure of the study. The research materials included the training process and competitions of athletes, as well as changes in their psychological state, depending on the nature of their sporting activities. Methods. To test this hypothesis, methods of analysis of literary sources and testing were used: the ‘Psychological Stress Measure (PSM-25)’ method by Lemur-Tessier-Fillion and a questionnaire determining the tendency to develop stress.
Results and conclusions. At the start of the study, the average group stress level in the control group was 165 points, and in the experimental group it was 135 points.
According to the results of testing using the PSM-25 Lemur T-F method 17% (11 people) of respondents showed signs of high stress levels: 2 people from the experimental group and 9 people from the control group; 39% (25 people) of respondents showed signs of moderate stress levels: 13 of them were from the experimental group and 12 from the control group; 44% (28 people) showed signs of low stress levels: 17 of them were from the experimental group and 11 from the control group. 5% of respondents from the control group showed high stress resistance, another 16% showed a favourable balance of stress resistance, 57% showed moderate stress resistance, and another 22% showed high anxiety levels. The study leads to the conclusion that regular martial arts training, regardless of the discipline, contributes to the formation of internal reserves of resources necessary for successful adaptation to stress, which is especially important in the context of modern intensive academic and professional workloads.
