Objective of the study is to determine the relationship between pride in the country's sporting achievements as a component of civic identity and proactive attitudes in the professional sphere among students.
Methods and structure of the study. Students from humanities and technical departments of St. Petersburg universities (n=200) participated in the research. The average age of participants was 20 years, with women accounting for 69% of the sample. The study was conducted using a survey method, techniques: the ISSP civic identity scale adapted by L.K. Grigorian and a situational task based on L. Kohlberg's moral dilemma to assess the proactivity of professional choice. Data processing was carried out using correlation analysis (Pearson's r).
Results and conclusions. A positive correlation was found between pride in sporting achievements and proactive professional attitudes (r=0.14) and between assessment of the social security system and proactivity (r=0.15). Only 27.5% of respondents demonstrated a proactive professional attitude (choosing ‘universal human values’ in the dilemma). Despite the statistical correlation, pride in sport ranks second in the hierarchy of values, while social security ranks only eighth. This contradiction may explain the relatively low percentage of proactive decisions: a positive perception of sporting achievements is associated with the value of labor, but insufficient confidence in state support may shift the focus of young people to seeking support in their immediate environment. It is important for today's young people to feel that their initiatives are supported by the state and to be more confident in the country's social security system. The study contributes to the understanding of the role of sporting identity in shaping the proactive professional attitude of young people. This result allows for more effective planning of youth programs at both the university and state levels.
