Introduction. Regular repetition of muscle activity over a long period of time can significantly activate the body's parameters [2]. This is particularly important for young students, who often need to enhance their physical development for overall somatic strengthening and activation [1].
The purpose of this study is to determine the dynamics of physical characteristics in second-year university students who regularly visit a gym.
Research methodology and organization. The results of observing 25 first-year male students from the very beginning of their studies at the university were taken into account. A part of them (12 people) started regular weightlifting in the gym 3 times a week for an hour. From 13 non-athletic their peers formed a control group, which refused to participate in any sports activity. Both groups were monitored dynamically and tested for physical performance at baseline and every two months during the first two years of university study. The test results were processed using the Student's t-test.
The results of the study and their discussion. At the beginning of the study, the physical characteristics of all students were comparable and low. During the first year of weightlifting training, those who engaged in physical activity experienced a gradual increase in strength, speed, coordination, and endurance. Continuing the training during the following year of study resulted in a consolidation of all the measured characteristics at a high level. Their fellow students, who made up the control group, maintained low test results of the considered physical capabilities throughout the observation period.
Conclusions. In the case of regular weightlifting, students experience an increase in their physical fitness during the year of training. At least for the next year, the achieved high level of endurance, speed, strength, and coordination parameters is maintained. Avoiding participation in sports activities maintains the low level of physical capabilities among students.
