Objective of the study. Identify the vector of development of sports universities in the context of the transformation of Russian higher education.
Methods and structure of the study. A comparative analysis of the positions of educational, personnel and international activities of sports universities in the context of the current state of the Russian higher education system is carried out.
Results and conclusions. Based on the analysis, the features of modern training in the field of physical culture and sports have been identified, including: a low average number of students, the predominance of full-time students, differentiation of the student body according to budgetary and contractual forms of education, a low proportion of foreign students, and the diversification of educational programs by training level (bachelor's degree, specialty, master's degree).,the lack of specialization, the prevalence of sports training, the implementation of network programs, as well as the distribution of programs, implemented using remote online technologies.
