Objective of the study is to substantiate the use of the comparative method of comparing scientific approaches in the analysis of traditional spiritual and moral values of athletes.
Methods and structure of the study. For the methodological assessment of scientific approaches to the analysis of value orientations of athletes within the framework of the comparative method, the criteria were established by which the comparison was carried out: ideas about the value of sport among athletes from different countries; value attitudes of athletes from different cultural environments; differences in the value system among athletes of different gender, age, level of training; the dynamics of change in values depending on social, historical and political factors.
Results and conclusions. Comparative studies in the analysis of athletes' values allowed to establish significant personal characteristics, in particular, such qualities as autopoieticity – self-completion, heredity and variability, and within the framework of the cognitive-behavioral approach – their implicit, hidden contradictions, their inherent dissonances and distortions, established and forming relationships in the internal and external environment, which should be used in the development of various social techniques, behavioral engineering, cognitive practices for the acceptance and maintenance, development of athletes' values.
Keywords: comparative approach, comparative studies, athletes' values, cognitive-behavioral approach, autopoiesis, genetic approach.
