Objective of the study to trace the changes in the level of physical abilities in students during two years of higher education who regularly practiced hand-to-hand combat.
Methods and structure of the study. During the first two years of the university 45 young men, who made up two groups, were monitored. A group of 23 athletic students who regularly trained from the beginning of the first year in the hand-to-hand combat section twice a week. Non-sports students (22 persons) experienced significant physical activity only 2 times per week in physical education classes. At the beginning of the study and at the end of the second year, the observed students were tested with traditional tests. The results of the study were calculated by Student's t test.
Results and conclusions. Systematic attendance at the hand-to-hand combat section during two university courses contributed to the positivization of coordination, speed and strength indicators, strength parameters and endurance growth in students. In this regard, regular two-year training in the hand-to-hand combat section can be considered as an effective option of pronounced improvement of physical fitness of full-time university students, providing their general health improvement.
