Objective of the study is to experimentally substantiate the influence of physical education lessons on the development of attention in high school students.
Methods and structure of the study. In the pedagogical experiment (January - May 2024), 128 students of the 8th grade of the Moscow comprehensive school with in-depth study of individual subjects took part. During the experiment, schoolchildren performed a set of various physical exercises. In particular, along with a general warm-up and flexibility exercises, volleyball elements were included in the lesson program in January and February, basketball in March and April, and track and field in May. The study presents comparative data on students who were engaged in physical activity during classes and those who were exempted for medical reasons, but they attended classes. Diagnostics of the level of attention was carried out using the Thorndike test at the beginning and end of the lesson.
Results and conclusions. Based on the results of the pedagogical experiment, the effectiveness of using physical education lessons for developing the attention of 14-15 year old schoolchildren was proven. Students who were engaged in physical activity as part of physical education classes were able to reliably improve their attention indicators. At the same time, for schoolchildren who only attended classes, these indicators increased slightly due to adaptation to the test.
Keywords: children's health, mental processes, Thorndike test, physical activity.
