Objective of the study is to study the leading modality of perception in schoolchildren with mental retardation and to develop methodological recommendations for organizing physical education training taking into account the leading type of perception of students.
Methods and structure of the study. The study involved 20 junior adolescent schoolchildren with mental retardation at MAOU Secondary School No. 8 in Ishim, Tyumen Oblast. The experimental study used observation, the "Leading Modality" technique developed by the authors, the "Exclusion of Concepts" and "Relationship of Concepts" thinking methods, the Ravenna test, and "Classification".
Results and conclusions. The leading modalities of perception in adolescents with mental retardation were identified, and a higher level of development of visual-figurative thinking was established than verbal-logical thinking. The existing differences are statistically significant. The Student criterion was used to assess the reliability of the existing differences. Methodological recommendations for organizing physical education training taking into account the leading sensory modality of students are proposed.
Keywords: leading sensory modality, auditory modality, visual modality, kinesthetic modality, early adolescents, mental retardation.
