Objective of the study was to сomparative analysis of physical fitness of student wrestlers engaged in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment involved 81 student-athletes specializing in wrestling: 47 Greco-Roman wrestlers (mean age 17,5 ± 2,4 years) and 34 freestyle wrestlers (mean age 17,5 ± 1,6 years). All participants were students of physical education and sports colleges and universities. The following methods were used: anthropometry and bioimpedancemetry, as well as ergometric studies. Along with this, the strength capabilities of the upper and lower extremities were assessed.
Results and conclusions. It was revealed that in anthropometric indicators and body composition parameters, representatives of both wrestling styles do not have reliable differences. At the same time, a comparison of the anaerobic performance of the upper limb muscles showed a reliable superiority of Greco-Roman wrestlers compared to freestyle wrestlers, which is explained by the priority actions of the arms in Greco-Roman wrestling and leaves a significant imprint on the specifics of physical fitness and the composition of technical and tactical actions of Greco-Roman wrestlers. At the same time, freestyle wrestlers, noticeably inferior to Greco-Roman wrestlers in anaerobic performance of the upper limb muscles, have some advantage in most speed-strength parameters, which characterizes a greater variety of techniques in this type of wrestling and a relatively uniform distribution of various physical qualities in the structure of athletes physical fitness.
