Objective of the study was to develop a teaching method for young hockey players aged 14-20 with mental disabilities who play special hockey.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment was conducted at the Yeti childrens and youth special hockey team in Moscow from 2021 to 2024. 20 athletes aged 14 to 20 took part in the work.
Results and conclusions. The learning process is built as a single training cycle, including a rational selection of stages, tools and methods that take into account the age, gender, motor experience of the student, the nature and extent of existing disorders and his/her functional capabilities. In order to increase the effectiveness of training sessions, the group is divided into 5-7 subgroups of 2-3 people. An important feature of training sessions in special hockey is the comprehensive focus on the development of motor skills. The preparatory part should include communicative and general developmental games. It is recommended to allocate time for correctional work at each training session.
By the end of the pedagogical experiment, the athletes had a noticeable increase in results in most of the studied indicators. The totality of the results of the study showed the high efficiency of the developed methodology for training in special hockey for adolescents and young people aged 14-20 with mental disabilities.

Keywords: special hockey, adolescents with mental disabilities, adaptive sports.
