Introduction. In accordance with the regulatory framework for the activities of sports universities, issues related to the professional orientation of athletes at the end of their careers are classified as the target areas of activity of branch universities [1]. To increase the effectiveness of this activity, pedagogical conditions are created in each university of physical culture and sports [2, 3].
The purpose of the study is to present the results of the author's research on determining the optimal pedagogical conditions of a sports university, which contribute to the professional orientation of athletes during the end of their sports career.
The results of the study and their discussion. In order to create pedagogical conditions conducive to the professional orientation of athletes, a study was conducted on the social and cognitive expectations of athletes in relation to the university. According to 200 highly qualified athletes, at the retirement stage, the main expectations for university are: getting a sought–after education (22%), finding employment (19%), informing about potential vacancies and employers (16%), monitoring their professional capabilities and abilities (16%). Knowing these expectations allows us to form a direction for supporting athletes at the university.: 1) harmonization of the content and schedule of training with the sports and life experience of students, 2) coordination of all forms of laboratory and all types of practical training with the practice of sports activities, 3) motivation for participation in health-saving and socially significant projects in the mode of educational and professional cooperation, 4) expansion of the system of professional mentoring. These pedagogical conditions are presented in the agreed rating of athletes, their coaches and university teachers.
Conclusions. In the course of the author's research, a set of pedagogical conditions was identified that contribute to the professional orientation of athletes during the completion of their sports career based on their socio-cognitive expectations.
