Introduction. The problem of maintaining and maintaining physical fitness and the dynamics of changes in physical qualities in different age groups has not been sufficiently studied. This issue is especially relevant in the context of the higher education system in the methodological development of classes in applied physical culture in different courses.
The purpose of the study is a comparative assessment of the state of health and physical fitness of students of different age groups.
Methodology and organization of research. Full-time and part‑time students of the 3rd year (n=15), aged 30, and students of the 1st year of the full‑time department (n=15), aged 18, took part in the scientific work. The study was conducted in 2024-2025 at the NArFU Institute of Shipbuilding and Marine Arctic Engineering. Methods: somatotyping, assessment of functional status (heart rate, blood pressure, Barbell test), motor tests (reaction speed, flexibility, dynamic strength, strength endurance, speed-strength endurance, postural muscle strength, Romberg test). The tests are selected taking into account a professional perspective to assess the formation and development of various physical qualities.
The results of the study and their discussion. When comparing the physical development of 30‑year–old men, body weight was determined in the average group value of 80 kg, in 18‑year-old boys 66.9 kg, with a body length of 177 cm in both groups. The indicators of the functional system in the two groups are normal. In the tests: the Romberg test and the test for the strength of the postural muscles of the back are higher in young men. In the tests, jumping up, push-ups, and quickness of simple reaction, the results are higher for men.
Conclusion. Men's physical condition is higher and more stable at the age of 30 than that of boys aged 18. In methodological developments, it is necessary to take into account the research data and diversify the classes of 1st‑year boys.
