Transformation of students attitudes towards physical activity: polarity of personal priorities

Objective of the study was to determining students personal and cohort priorities for physical activity.
Methods and structure of the study. The following was conducted at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics: a survey of students (n=1272) on the topic «Physical activity in a students daily routine» (2024), an analysis of the results obtained with the results of research in 2020-2022.
Results and conclusions. Students are divided into two groups: the first group does not engage in physical activity; the second group demonstrates a desire to lead a healthy lifestyle and engage in physical activity 2-3 times a week. The use of exercises for general physical development has decreased (from 61,7% to 27,0%), priorities are shifting to the prevention of posture disorders (21,9%), strength development (20,6%) and coordination (15,7%). Among students in the second group, the following were identified: an attitude towards a healthy lifestyle based on the value orientations of the family, school and university; cohort priority is physical activity in comfortable conditions of «digital self-isolation». The importance of the academic discipline «Physical education» for all students is determined: for the first group, in order to form a secondary need for motor activity; for the second group, in order to take a competent approach to the choice of physical exercises.
